The Entwined Future of Wild and Farmed Seafood
Our core values are the foundations of everything we do, guiding our decisions and shaping our culture. They are the DNA that makes InnaSea Media what it is - compassionate, imaginative, innovative, and prepared to disrupt the status quo when a shake up is needed.
One of our core values, which resonates deeply with our mission, is the belief in the harmonious coexistence of wild and farmed seafood. This value not only reflects the diverse backgrounds of our two co-founders—one from the wild side and the other from farmed—but also underscores our commitment to sustainability, authenticity, and collaboration across the seafood landscape. And this is a hotspot that absolutely needs a shake up.
Understanding the Unity : We’re In This Together
The seafood industry is often polarized between wild-caught and farmed products, with debates about sustainability, environmental impact, and quality. However, we believe that both wild and farmed seafood play essential roles in rising to meet the global seafood demand and sustainability expectations. Wild fisheries play a vital role in providing a diverse, renewable source of seafood that supports long-term ecological balance and marine ecosystems, while aquaculture offers a controlled environment for producing seafood efficiently and consistently, and both have a part to play in supporting the social and economic health and wellness of coastal communities.
Championing Integrity : Doing the Right Thing
In advocating for the coexistence of wild and farmed seafood, we prioritize integrity. This means supporting practices that operate under a sustainable, transparent, and ethical framework, ensuring that both sectors can thrive without compromising the health of our oceans or the well-being of seafood-supported communities. We work with clients in both sectors who share this commitment, helping them adopt and promote sustainable practices that benefit the seafood industry as a whole.
Embracing Authenticity : Get Comfortable With Reality
Our approach is rooted in authenticity. As is echoed in our values, you don’t have to be perfect; you just have to be real, and we hope what's real aligns with what's right. We recognize the unique strengths and challenges of both wild and farmed seafood, and are committed to honest communication about these realities. By acknowledging the benefits and limitations of each, we foster a culture of transparency and continuous improvement. This authenticity extends to our consulting services, where we guide clients in developing genuine, truthful communication strategies that speak to their audiences.
Fostering Collaboration : A Rising Tide Lifts All Boats
Collaboration is at the heart of our philosophy - the future of the seafood industry lies in cooperation, not competition. By bridging the gap between wild and farmed seafood sectors, we can collectively create a more resilient and sustainable industry. This means encouraging knowledge sharing, joint ventures, and initiatives that will have long term benefits for both sides. When working with clients, we often focus on building partnerships that leverage the strengths of both wild and farmed seafood to achieve their common goals.
Promoting Harmony : With Our Powers Combined
Supporting the coexistence of wild and farmed seafood is more than a strategic choice; it's a reflection of our commitment to a balanced and sustainable seafood industry. We believe that in order for the industry to become publicly celebrated as the most sustainable food source in the world, these two sides of our industry need to exist in harmony. With the combined knowledge and experience of both farmers and fishermen working in tandem to promote innovation and elevation of the seafood industry, we can create a future where wild and farmed seafood are not in opposition but are complementary parts of a holistic approach to feeding the world.
Why It Matters
The global demand for seafood is rising, and meeting this demand sustainably is one of the greatest challenges we face. Wild fisheries alone cannot supply enough seafood without risking overfishing and ecosystem damage. There are plenty of fish in the sea, but not that much. Conversely, relying solely on aquaculture without considering environmental impacts can lead to other issues. It’s still an outside addition to the ecosystem and needs to be implemented mindfully. By promoting the coexistence of wild and farmed seafood, we support a balanced approach that ensures long-term sustainability, economic stability for both sides of the industry, and food security.
We’re Committed
This is one of the cornerstones of our mission. We’re dedicated to advancing the coexistence of wild and farmed seafood both in our work with our clients and in the stories we share on our platforms. We believe there is a path forward where both sectors can thrive alongside each other, supported by sustainable practices, transparent communication, and collaborative innovation. This commitment is a reflection of our core values and the uniquely diverse experiences that brought us together as a team.
Boots on the Ground
The move towards collaboration to create and share the coexistence story between wild and farmed is long overdue. We have spent our careers working directly with fishermen, farmers, and seafood stakeholders around the world to help them tell their stories from the source. By working this way, we help our clients own their narratives and present them in a way that is authentic to their reality - not what has been decided for them externally.
This boots-on-the-ground approach is how we share the coexistence narrative - connecting with the at-sea community on Bri’s platform, with consumers on Emily’s, and with the industry at large through InnaSea. We invite you to join us, follow along, and participate in kind, curious, open-perspective conversations so that we can collaboratively work towards shaping a harmonious, sustainable, and thriving seafood industry that benefits everyone.
